WorkSafe partnership to help orphans
We are pleased to be a charity partner for WorkSafe Victoria on an Everest Base Camp Leadership Journey and Community Project for 2017.
Russell Tomlin and Jack Carmody, two highly experienced Himalayan trekkers, are leading a group from WorkSafe Victoria on a mentally and physically challenging trek to Everest Base Camp in April/May this year. The trek has been designed to develop individual leadership competencies and teamwork skills.
Following the trek the group will be joining our CEO, Mark Pinoli, at the Shree Bal Mandir Orphanage and School in the Gorkha District where they will fulfil the community assistance part of their program.
“We view the community project as an integral part of the journey and a challenge that team members will embrace with enthusiasm and professionalism” say Jack and Russell.
We became involved at the Bal Mandir Orphanage soon after the 2015 Nepal earthquake, when we provided support to the orphans who were mostly living in tents because of the damage to their accommodation. Since that initial support, we have initiated a Child Sponsorship Program which is currently providing long-term support for 15 children.
The WorkSafe group will both raise funds and lend their expertise to install a water storage system to increase the sustainability of the available water supply for the children. Since the earthquake, water supply to school has been seriously curtailed and hygiene has been a concern.
We will also be installing a Computer Education Centre at the school using a number of Lenovo laptops that have been donated by WorkSafe.
“By aligning ourselves with our charity partner, we have been presented with the wonderful opportunity to make a difference to the Nepalese community, and more importantly its children, by providing them with more hygienic living conditions and greater prospects for learning. It was an opportunity too good to miss” says Russell.
“This is a wonderful example of industry cooperation and the value that can come from supporting the work of Australian charities such as ours” says Mark.
“We are helping an organisation’s up-and-coming leaders to contribute to meaningful outcomes in Nepal, and developing their appreciation of helping underserved communities. Everyone wants to do good and Logged On is providing an avenue to do it.”
